A future that honours the wairua and history of The ChurchFrom its elevated position on the hill that dips down to the township of Rawene, The Church has observed the comings and goings of Rawene and the surrounding harbour for nearly 150 years. Constructed at a cost of £160 by notable builder William Cook, the Wesleyan Church building has been a part of Rawene’s main street since 1876. The church was constructed at the time Rawene became the main administrative centre for the Hokianga Harbour.
The Church provides a further source and focus for creativity in the Hokianga community and adds to the attraction of the area as both a historic and creative destination. |
